The material determines the coating, the task determines thickness and which side is coated. Zirconia and ceramics require diamond, while metal and plaster can also be cut with carbide.

Double-sided for sectioning, single-sided for separating. The smooth reverse of the single-sided disc protects the part that is meant to remain.
When separating crowns on the model this decides whether the adjacent tooth is damaged. A double-sided disc cuts wherever it touches, even where you do not want it to.
Almost always through jamming, not material fatigue. Lateral pressure takes the disc out of plane, and thin discs do not forgive that.
The diameter determines cutting depth and accessibility. Small discs work more precisely, large ones reach deeper cuts. This page can be filtered by diameter.
Metal and ceramics are cut with coolant to avoid heat and structural changes. Plaster can be worked dry, but then with extraction because of dust exposure.
Guide it straight and without levering, observe the maximum speed stated on the item and work with steady feed. Safety glasses are mandatory for cutting work, even for short cuts.
As thin as possible, as stable as necessary. Thin discs remove less material and cut faster but jam more easily.
For long cuts in metal or plaster a thicker disc is the calmer choice. The matching carrier is available under mandrels, and for contouring hard materials the sintered diamond grinders.
