Answers on delivery, terms, reprocessing, quality and our instrument system.
Conical instruments with a rounded tip are used for the chamfer. The grit determines the working step: coarse for removal, fine for finishing the preparation margin.
Yes, technically there is nothing against it. The benefit of the higher diamond concentration only shows on hard materials, however, and the standard range is sufficient for everyday preparation.
No, the usual speeds for diamond instruments apply unchanged. The maximum speed is stated with each item.
No. Carbide finishing burs are designed for composite and hard tooth tissue. Ceramics are worked with diamond-coated instruments.
That depends on the type. Many cups are intended for single use, others can be reprocessed. The specification is given with each item.
RA for the contra-angle handpiece in the clinic, HP for the straight handpiece in the laboratory. This page can be filtered by shank type.
No. The mounting type and the bore diameter of the disc are decisive. Check both before combining them.
The choice of instrument depends on the cavity class according to Black and on the planned restoration.
| Class | Location | Common shapes |
|---|---|---|
| I | Fissures and pits of posterior teeth | Small round bur to open, cylinder or cone to shape |
| II | Proximal surfaces of posterior teeth | Cylinder, pear-shaped, cone with rounded tip |
| III | Proximal surfaces of anterior teeth without incisal edge | Small round bur, flame |
| IV | Proximal surfaces of anterior teeth with incisal edge | Flame, cone, fine grit for contouring |
| V | Cervical region | Round bur, cylinder with rounded edge |
Coarse grits open and shape the outline, fine grits work the preparation margin. Carious dentine is then removed with round burs and excavators, and the margins contoured with finishing burs.
One instrument is usually sufficient for metal crowns. For zirconia you should have a second one ready, as the hardness of the material reduces cutting performance more quickly.
No. Zirconium oxide is harder than the cutting material and carbide blunts immediately. Diamond-coated instruments are used for zirconia.
No. The polishers are impregnated with abrasive and work without paste. For professional cleaning with prophylaxis paste we offer separate cups and brushes.
Coarse grit for removal, fine grit for working the preparation margin. With zirconia the change is particularly worthwhile because coarse grits leave deep scratches.
The range covers the common grits for preparation and contouring. This page can be filtered by grit and shape.
In the medium range with light pressure. High speed generates heat and makes composite smear instead of being cut.
The RA shank for the contra-angle handpiece. Prophylaxis is carried out at low speed, which is what the contra-angle handpiece is designed for.
That depends on the bristle material. Information on reprocessing is given with each item.
The diameter determines cutting depth and accessibility. Small discs work more precisely, large ones reach deeper cuts. This page can be filtered by diameter.
Cooling makes sense on metal and ceramics to bind heat and dust. Observe the manufacturer's specification for the individual abrasive.
They are designed for the HP shank on the laboratory handpiece. In the clinic, galvanically coated diamond instruments with FG or RA shanks are used.
No. Zirconium oxide is harder than carbide and blunts the blades immediately. Sintered diamond grinders are intended for that.
The choice depends on the intended friction and the design. What matters is that the angle stays identical across all surfaces of a case, which is only achievable in the milling unit.
The stainless steel versions are designed for validated reprocessing. The specification is given with each item.
Yes. For non-precious alloys, flutings with a high blade count and stable geometry are used. For precious metals, coarser flutings are sufficient because the material is softer.
The instruments are sterilisable and can be reused when reprocessed by a validated procedure. Check the cutting performance before every use and replace instruments that require more pressure than usual.
Carbide round burs can be reused when reprocessed by a validated procedure. Once the blades are rounded and the instrument smears instead of cutting, it should be replaced.
Yes, the instruments are designed for validated reprocessing. Clean them immediately after the procedure, before cement residues dry on.
Immediately after use, while residues have not dried on. Ultrasound and a brush clear the chip spaces where acrylic and cement accumulate.
Narrow, flame-shaped or disc-shaped polishers reach the proximal space without touching the adjacent tooth surface. This page can be filtered by shape.
Yes, they can be reused when reprocessed by a validated procedure. Clean immediately after the procedure, as zirconia dust clogs the spaces between the grains.
Yes, that is the point of the geometry. The channels carry chips and coolant away, keeping the cutting surface clear for longer.
Several times when reprocessed by a validated procedure. Once the fine blades are rounded, the instrument no longer smooths but merely removes material.
Only with a suitable paste. Coarse prophylaxis paste can roughen composite. For restorations, abrasive-impregnated polishers are the better choice.
Brushes produce a natural shine. For a mirror-like gloss on composite or ceramics, multi-step polishers are the better choice.
Stock items at rotatec are ready to ship within 48 hours, directly from the manufacturer in Appenzell and without the detour via a depot. This matters particularly when a procedure is scheduled and the instrument is missing at short notice.
The RA shank for the contra-angle handpiece, the FG shank for the turbine, HP for the straight handpiece. Caries excavation is usually carried out in the contra-angle handpiece at low speed.
Diamond instruments can be reused several times when reprocessed properly and by a validated procedure. What matters is immediate cleaning after the procedure and monitoring the cutting performance. Once it declines, the instrument should be replaced.
By the colour: the colour coding distinguishes pre-polishing, high gloss and fine polishing. In the tray this lets you follow the sequence without mixing up instruments.
Alongside the standard length we offer extended versions for difficult access, for example with impacted wisdom teeth. This page can be filtered by length and shank type.
Yes. rotatec manufactures to ISO 13485 and all products comply with the EU Medical Device Regulation (CE-MDR). The certificates are available as PDF in the download area.
You buy from the manufacturer without intermediaries. That means direct quality control and short routes: stock items are ready to ship within 48 hours, with no need to wait for a sales representative.
In practice nothing, both terms describe diamond-coated rotary instruments. Grinder is more common in the dental laboratory, bur in the clinic.
Yes. rotatec has manufactured in Appenzell since 1980, certified to ISO 13485 and CE-MDR. You buy directly from the manufacturer, with no depot in between.
Stock items are ready to ship within 48 hours, directly from the manufacturer. An account is quickly set up, after which you can order around the clock without a sales visit.
Metal and ceramics are cut with coolant to avoid heat and structural changes. Plaster can be worked dry, but then with extraction because of dust exposure.
Pressed ceramics can be worked with the same instruments as veneering ceramics. What matters is the grit: coarse for removing the sprue, fine for contouring before polishing.
Coarse grit for contouring and reduction, medium for shaping, fine to prepare for polishing. Skipping a step leaves scratches that cost more polishing time later.
After finishing with a fine fluting, rubber polishers in increasing fineness follow. The milled surface must be smooth, otherwise the friction of the finished work suffers.
Your complete order is ready to ship within 48 hours at the latest and usually reaches you within 5 working days. Yes. rotatec is ISO 13485 certified, all products are CE-certified and comply with the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
The colour ring indicates the grit: white = ultra fine, yellow = extra fine, red = fine, no ring = medium, green = coarse, black = super coarse, blue = ultra coarse.
The middle digits of our REF number, i.e. positions 4–6 of the ISO number, indicate the shank: 314 = FG (friction grip, turbine/red contra-angle, 1.6 mm shank Ø), 204 = RA (contra-angle), 104 = HP (handpiece). This tells you which drive the instrument fits.
Our instruments are developed, manufactured and distributed to ISO 13485 standards at our Appenzell site. Swiss Made stands for consistent quality, short delivery routes and full traceability.
